It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a squad that has won it all.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batters to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

In the end, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her newest gem.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the case for final game tension. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was considerably tougher to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it's been a challenging time because it seemed my form was missing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there the right-hander was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was removed the team needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

These statements will be the last Australia's opponents at this championship want to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory succeeding win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at a significant event.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing despite the injury.

However although she later admitted those injuries have pushed back plans to retire, this tournament is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as captain.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
