Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
